Club History

Our club held its first meeting in July 1945 and chose the name "Central West Highland White Terrier Club."  This name was rejected by the American Kennel Club as being too broad, and so the name "West Highland White Terrier Club of Indiana" was adopted on September 22, 1945.

On October 12, 1945, the West Highland White Terrier Club of Indiana became the first regional offshoot of the West Highland White Terrier Club of America to hold a regional specialty show.

In 2009, the West Highland White Terrier Club of Indiana will host the West Highland White Terrier Club of America's Centennial Roving Specialty.  As the first regional Westie club and the first regional club to hold a specialty show, we feel that we have come full circle by being awarded the opportunity to host this historic event
